Where can you go on a Barle Valley Safari
|
Most
customers opt for the Standard three hour Land Rover
Safari. These depart three times daily during the summer
and twice daily during the winter from Dulverton and
Dunster.
The Land Rover Safaris, which run throughout
the year, are the ideal way to experience Exmoor whatever
the weather. For families with young children, senior
citizens, the less able and anyone who wants an exhilerating
new experience, the Safaris really take you close to
nature in one of England's most beautiful National Parks.
|
Over
the millenia Exmoor has developed a diverse landscape
which is not confined to windswept moorland but includes
pastoral farmland, deep wooded valleys and picturesque
villages nestling in sheltered combes. Amongst the
scenery are the relics of times gone by; Bronze Age
remains, Iron Age settlements, medieval field systems
and mysterious monuments.
|
The
Land Rover Safari routes incorporate as many of these
features as possible while looking out for the red deer,
Exmoor ponies, bird and other wildlife. Events during
a safari include fording fast flowing rivers, passing
through broadleaf and conifer forest, crossing over the
dramatic moors and climbing steep rock slopes out of deep
valleys. |
|
Your
driver has a choice of routes from each starting point.
In general, Land Rover Safaris from Dunster cover routes
in the north and Dulverton is the more practical starting
point for the southern area. We try to show our many
repeat customers something different every time and
accommodate any other requests to find items of particular
or individual interest.
Quite often we come across local
character and wildlife enthusiast Johnny Kingdom the
star of recent documentaries about Exmoor shown on BBC2.
A chance to have a yarn and swap information about the
deer herds and other wildlife.
