Access Statement for The Freight Shed

 

INTRODUCTION

The studio type accommodation is in a single storey traditional stone construction building built about 1864 and originally part of the terminus station of the West Somerset Mineral Railway (The Old Mineral Line)

We hope this statement provides all the information required but will welcome a call if any further clarification is required.

PRE-ARRIVAL

Bookings / Enquiries can be made by email, fax or telephone.

There is no bus service covering the immediate area.

The nearest mainline train stations are at Taunton & Tiverton which are both about 20 miles away.

A few essential groceries are provided free of charge for all guests on arrival

The nearest shops are either village stores at Brompton Regis (2 miles) and Wheddon Cross (3 miles) or a better range of outlets at Dulverton (7 miles). The nearest large town is 9 miles away at Minehead.

 

ARRIVAL & PARKING FACILITIES

The entrance from Armoor Lane is through a five bar gate to a slightly descending stone chip drive leading, after 30 metres, to the Freight Shed porch.

A car parking bay is situated adjacent to the drive about 5 metres before the porch door to the accommodation.

There is additional parking in the lane outside in a lay-by next to the front gate.

Security lights activate and illuminate all access area during the hours of darkness.

 

ENTRANCE & ACCESS

Entrance to the accommodation is through a glass panelled porch. The external door, hinged at the right and width 74cm, is at one end of the porch with a sill 10cm high. Key hole height is 94cm.

The porch area is 2.7m x 1.1m with a level tiled floor and two steps 15cm high, 30cm deep & 106cm wide to the main stable type door width 90cm of the living space

 

LIVING & BEDROOM AREA

The main living area of the studio type accommodation includes arrangements for sleeping, relaxing & dining.

The floor is tiled and level throughout & provided with Baluchi rugs.

The double bed is of length 6.5ft

Duvets & pillows provided. Please advise if non-feather required

Sheets, duvet cover & pillow cases are cotton.

Drop-leaf table stored against wall. 72cm floor to underside of table. Table surface 102cm x 71cm

Two folding wooden armless chairs stored with table.

One double sofa with scatter cushions

Furniture is movable

TV & DVD player provided with remote controls.

Free space of 4.0m x 1.0m clear of doors and furniture.

Two doors each 66cm wide giving ccess to kitchen and shower/WC on same level.

 

LAUNDRY

There is a standard washing machine in the kitchen. A rotary clothes line is available in the garden. A short clothes line is rigged in the porch.

 

SHOWER ROOM & WC

Shower cubicle 77cm x 74cm with adjustable shower head and curtain

Toilet seat height 43cm.

Space to left of toilet 56cm, no space to the right.

Hand basin height 96cm.

Extensive gardens are available for the enjoyment of visitors

Bearing in mind the history of the property there are other buildings and elevated railway platforms within the site.

Level access from the accommodation to main lawns and flower beds between the old railway platforms

Garden furniture provided with cushions and a sunshade

Barbecue available

Boundary securely fenced

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Erratic mobile phone reception throughout Exmoor. Signal can be obtained in north facing window bays and at places in the driveway outside the accommodation.

For urgent matters telephone & fax facilities are available at Station Cottage

A smoke detection alarm is fitted in the accommodation

In the event of an emergency inform Station Cottage

Well behaved dogs are welcome. Please arrange at the time of booking.

The Owners of the Freight Shed also operate Land Rover tours of the Exmooe National Park. Guests wishing to join a tour can usually be picked up from and dropped off at the accommodation.
